Oh Wired how you’ve let me down

So, I received my latest copy of Wired Magazine a few days ago and it came with a secondary publication entiteled “geekipedia” so eagerly I opened it up only to find something seriously wrong… there was almost *NO* content it was 60 pages of ads and 18 of those pages were core 2 duo ads….. 30% of this magazine’s pages were intel advertisements… whomever thought it was a good idea to publish an ad 18 times in a 60 page magazine is a complete doofus and deserves a slap in the face.

As to Wired, if you have oversold your ad space please don’t put it in a secondary publication with a cool title… just name it what it is “the sunday ad section of your local newspaper” *sigh*

Hippies arrested on capital hill yesterday (fuck you cindy sheehan and have fun in jail, it’s about time). Today more crazy hippies that smoked too much pot saying that 9/11 was planned by the government and the twin towers were taken down by demolitions….give it up people… stop licking Rosey’s cooch and get a life.

I’ve spent my day of remembrance getting pissed off at the underbelly of our society coming out of the cheeba huts, VW bus vans, and from hemp making classes to come and insult both the families of the victims of 9/11 and the people fighting for this country.

Cindy Sheehan you should be ashamed of yourself for disrespecting a four star general who has done more for this country than most of us (especially you).  I’m sure you are going to accuse the government of arresting you for speaking your mind however that assault on the police officer says otherwise. Have fun continuing to be the worlds biggest douche while I proudly support our troops and their families and this country.

Quote of the day: “Save the country, kill a fuckin’ hippy:

Fuck you Missouri & Western Union

Somehow some hillbilly fucktard acquired one of my credit card numbers and attempted to western union himself some of my money… and the sad thing is, is that western union actually *tried* to send the order through… without checking the persons identity… *sigh*

Poor and confusing Comcast routing

The set up:

My business partner who resides in the SF bay area has a cable connection to comcast at his home. Until recently his connectivity to our colocation has been phenominal… that is until his IP changed. Apparently Comcast has different routing for different IP blocks; this proves to be a bit confusing as you would think it would be easier to load balance if all IPs were announcing the same and being routed the same. The MTR below shows the odd difference.

First his old IP which routed nicely through AT&T and had good stability (low packet loss / low jitter):

as you can see packets reach him 100% of the time (the packet loss on hop 12 is just a router shedding ICMP packets as it doesn’t show loss on the proceeding hops).

Now on one of his new IPs (this is no longer his IP and neither is the old).

You can see the horrible packet loss and 5ms more latency along with what looks like saturation between comcast and global crossing.

Come on Comcast you make billions a year, how about providing a quality service?

I hate to be blunt but, Vista is a piece of crap

Well we finally got my wifes new Dell Inspiron laptop (was going to get a mac but couldn’t shell out 2 grand).  I got Vista with it just so that I could experience just how bad it was… and it somehow surprised me with how bad it actually was.

The Laptop:

AMD Turion X2 64

80GB SATA HDD

1024MB RAM

The OS:

Vista Home Basic

The laptop comes with Vista installed so I did not have to, the only thing I would have to do when turning it on was to setup the first user.  Vista took 15 minutes to “Calculate my systems performace” (what the hell is that all about?!).  To make a long story short, it took 45 minutes to even get into the OS (with lots of cursing at how slow it was).

I am literally astounded at how slow and poorly performing Vista is.  I really was hoping to be happily surprised but I was poorly mistaken, and another thing is Vista gave my system a 3.0 rating… however it doesn’t say what that is out of, we’ll assume 10… if my dual core 1GB ram 256MB video card SATA HDD laptop gets a 3.0, what in the hell does it take to get a 10?!

Anyways final sumation is that it’s currently formating and getting a fresh fast copy of Fedora Core 6 😉
