SMI v0.3.0 Released!
I’ve release version 0.3.0 of my popular SHOUTcast server management software.
There is a big new feature set in the 0.3.x series:
-`Auto DJ` is now available – Stream to your SMI managed servers from your SMI installation.
– Create as many playlists as you like to assign to autodj enabled servers.

Installing a proper Ubuntu 8.10 copy on the new Dell Inspiron Mini 9
This is the fine work of Ehud G. over @ http://www.myehud.com
The Problem
The real problem is that Dell ships the laptop with a few choices that I didn’t like.
- They use the LPIA (Low Power Intel Architecture) version instead of i386. What this means is that about 80% of the software I want doesn’t yet exist in a repository of this architecture. It also means that the repositories are all at Dell instead of all over the world like Ubuntu’s.
- They install some of the Netbook Remix stuff, which I’m sure is good for new people, but it annoys me that half my screen real-estate is tied up with ginormous icons.
- Their version of the WiFi driver prevents ssh working (client or server) unless you do the magic incantation (“iwpriv eth1 set_vlanmode 0”)
- They lock the upper menu bar to the top of the screen.
- Presumably because of all the customization, they are shipping a six month old version.
The Solution
FedoraJunkies, XBMC and, the new build farm
So, as you’ve probably see in my previous posts; I run FedoraJunkies.com and I enjoy building the Fedora/CentOS RPMs for XBMC. Well I’ve added something new and exciting.
From now on XBMC will build nightly on the farm for Fedora 8/9/10 & CentOS 5 on both 386 & x86_64 architectures. That means no one has to wait for me to get the latest and greatest SVN nightly build in RPM form.
They are available every night around 1am MST @ http://www.sourcemirrors.org/scotth/{fedora,centos}/{releasever}/nightlybuilds/{architecture}
e.g.:
http://sourcemirrors.org/scotth/fedora/10/nightlybuilds/x86_64/XBMC-svn.20081128-1.fc10.x86_64.rpm
Enjoy!
